We have a plan to build 10 miles of trail on the Buzzard’s Roost property to be used by hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers and we need your support to make it happen.
The “Buzzard’s Roost” property is located on Rocky Face Ridge, which lies east of I-75 just north of the City of Dalton. This property is approximately 1000 acres which was acquired with a generous grant from the Civil War Land Trust, Whitfield County funds, Lyndhurst Foundation and other local funds. Buzzard’s Roost is of significant archeological value, as it was the site of the Civil War Battle of Mill Creek, the first altercation of the Atlanta Campaign. The property also contains unique terrain, slopes and ridges, and scenic views that offer significant outdoor recreation opportunities to the local and regional residents. Whitfield County and Northwest Georgia SORBA have agreed to develop hiking and mountain bike trails on this property to enhance the outdoor recreation opportunities while preserving the historic Civil War entrenchments as a nationally significant cultural resource.
Our goal is to raise $100K to construct the trail system. This is in addition to the proceeds from the Snake Time Trials, RTP Grant, and a $25K donation from the Lyndhurst Foundation. Help make this happen by donating to NWGA SORBA. We are a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
For associates of Shaw Industries, we have a donor who has made a generous offer to match up to $5K of the total donations from Shaw associates. So double your money by making a donation here. Thanks for your support!
